About Us
The Asylum Chorus is a powerhouse vocal ensemble that blends deep musical roots with bold, genre-defying innovation. Drawing from Americana, funk, soul, roots, and electronica, The Asylum Chorus creates an electrifying soundscape where tradition meets forward-thinking artistry. Known for their lush harmonies, captivating live performances, and original songwriting, the group continues to push the boundaries of vocal ensemble music.
The group originally formed in 2011 for a one-night-only performance at New Orleans’ iconic Preservation Hall; however, The Asylum Chorus quickly outgrew its origins. What began as a spontaneous collaboration evolved into a dynamic and evolving collective, captivating audiences across the Gulf South and beyond. Their unique vocal-driven sound and inventive arrangements became a hallmark of the group’s identity.
After a hiatus beginning in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Asylum Chorus made a triumphant return in 2024 with a reimagined lineup and renewed creative energy. The current ensemble features Colin Davis, Kelly Smith, Connor McCready, Roan Smith, Sybil Shannel, Ashley Shabankareh, Chloe Marie, Kirkland Green, Andy Bower, and Hannah Kreiger-Benson.
Together, they bring a vibrant mix of perspectives, styles, and talents that reflect the diversity of their musical roots. With an eye on the future and voices raised in harmony, The Asylum Chorus invites audiences into a sound both timeless and thrillingly new.
